10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning is not always exciting for most of us. But it should be done. As the holidays and winter end and we begin looking forward to spring, something within us pushes us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and purging things we’ve piled up over the winter.
But who says spring cleaning is limited to the interior of your house?
The outside of your home could likely use some refreshing after a cold, dreary winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the appearance of your home in Woodlands, and, more importantly, will offer much-needed care and maintenance that will save a lot of money over the years ahead.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the ideal time to clean your gutters, since so many leaves and debris collect in the fall and winter. The pollen count is at its highest in spring, making a huge mess in your gutters and downspouts if they are not cleaned.
Plus, bugs and critters are looking for places to build homes in spring, so having your gutters cleaned will help stop an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew, stains and returning them to a nice appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Residential window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. First floor windows will not cause you much of an issue, but second and third floor windows are a bit trickier to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a tough job, and will need a lot of tools, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the best way to get the panes and the outer frame clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You aren’t going to want clean gutters and windows on a dirty house. Which means you will want to pressure wash your home too!
Pressure washing is quick, effective and affordable. You can clean your house, outdoor furniture, patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with very little effort. It will eliminate dirt and mud so they won’t stain your home, and you can stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your driveway and giving it a good cleaning may seem strange since you will be driving on it, but actually, a clean, cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.
A professional pressure washing company can do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is pavement, asphalt, stone or another material. Also consider adding a gravel or mulch border to your driveway to really make it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your patio probably gets the most use during the summer, so it is easy to overlook it in the winter when you are not doing as much outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio could be in rough condition the first time you go onto it in spring.
Soap and water – and a little hard work – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you notice signs of mold or algae, you may need to consider a more aggressive option, like professional power washing, to ensure that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer long.
6. Roof Cleaning
Mold and moss are typical roof issues in Woodlands. While you’re cleaning the outside of your home, it is a great time to clean your roof too, but you will need to use a different process than the one you use for the rest of your home’s exterior cleaning.
If you start to notice streaks on your roof, algae is probably the reason. Moss is usually obvious, too. These contaminants cannot be wiped off of shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will ruin the shingles on your roof.
The ideal process for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach solution and leave it sit. This mixture will kill any organic organisms on your roof without lowering its lifespan.
7. Tidy up the Front
The front of your home is likely what most people passing by see, so make the best impression possible for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Returning home to a beautiful exterior will immediately improve your day, and will even motivate you to spend a lot more time outside.
Clean your front porch with detergent and water or a good power wash. Clean cobwebs and mud off of the front door, and consider painting it a new color for a fresh look! Clean unnoticed areas such as the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Garden Tools
You’ll probably be spending much more time outdoors, so spring is an excellent chance to organize whatever you will need for outdoor work.
Gardening tools and pool care equipment must all have an exact place outside your home – a place that it is safe from harsh weather and not in sight so it is not a constant eyesore. Taking the time to organize in the spring allows you to enjoy the outside of your home much more throughout the time of year when you spend the most time outside.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your yard, trees and bushes make a huge impact on the look of your home.
Kill weeds around your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up places where you will be planting later on and sweep off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed killer to make yard maintenance easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After being unused for several months, your grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but even worse they can make you and your family ill.
Wipe it down to get rid of leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber or grill brush (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can sometimes get into food) and a detergent or degreaser.
You can probably finish all of these projects after a few weekends but it will be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Woodlands Pressure Wash Plus offers professional home exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
